Revise and Remix Grants

Update, Adapt, Remix. Applications Open!

Are you a faculty member at a PALNI-supported institution ready to engage further with open curricular content? If so, PALNI invites you to participate in the PALSave Revise and Remix Grant Program. PALSave is offering $500-$1,500 stipends to faculty as an incentive to update, adapt, or remix existing open educational resources for their courses and share them openly.

Funds are disbursed upon completion of the revised/remixed publication, including an accessibility check. Faculty must reside in the United States, set up a Bill.com account to receive electronic payments, and submit a completed W-9 form to obtain stipends.

Types of Projects Funded

The Revise and Remix Grant supports faculty who want to improve, update, or build upon existing OER, including their own work. The amount of stipend support scales with the scope and complexity of the proposed changes. Eligible projects fall into three categories, with a low and high tier for each.

Author Updates

Author update projects revise the author’s previously published OER.

  • Low-tier examples: Content updates, minor restructuring, adding a single chapter
  • High-tier examples: Significant structural changes, multiple new chapters, and ancillary additions
Adaptations

Adaptation projects update someone else’s OER.

  • Low-tier examples: Localizing language or images, writing a new preface
  • High-tier examples: Adding multiple new chapters, rewriting for a new audience
Remixes

Remixes combine existing OER materials into something new.

  • Low-tier examples: Combining two or more OER with minimal original content included to bridge chapters
  • High-tier examples: Combining two or more OER with bridge content and two or more new chapters
Other Projects

Translations and unique projects that don't fit neatly into the above categories are considered on a case-by-case basis. Not sure where your project falls? Email us at press@palni.edu, and we will be happy to help you identify the right opportunity.

Projects Not Eligible for a Stipend

Not all projects fall within the Revise & Remix Grant's stipend framework. The following are supported by PALNI but do not qualify for a stipend.

Author Maintenance Updates
Fixing broken links, correcting typos, or making minor accessibility fixes, are considered routine upkeep and are not stipend eligible. PALNI provides support for authors handling these updates independently. To suggest a maintenance update, contact us.
Clones and Rebrands
Where an existing OER text is copied for a new course context or lightly rebranded. To get started on a clone or rebrand, propose a publication.
New Works
In which original content exceeds 50% of the total fall outside of the revise and remix grant’s scope. To get started on a new OER, propose a publication and/or consider applying for a Textbook Creation Grant.
Non-Open Content
Projects intended to be published with all copyrights reserved or closed to a specific audience. The PALNI Open Press supports open access publishing.
