OER basics

Overview

The infographic uses icons to illustrate that Open Educational Resources (OER) are free, with permission to be reused and modified. It is included on the website to help show that open textbooks, a particular kind of OER, can help alleviate the burden of textbook costs for students and provide faculty with content that can be customized for their course.

Presentation

The infographic contains the phrase “OPEN =” at the top. Below it are three icons side-by-side horizontally. The first icon is a dollar sign with a slash through it, indicating that “open” is free. Next to the “free” icon is a plus sign followed by the second icon, a hand with index finger and thumb connecting to give the “ok” sign. This icon indicates that “open” can be used with permission. Next to the “ok” icon is a plus sign followed by the third and final icon, a piece of paper with a pencil overlapping it. This icon indicates that “open” can be modified or customized.
