Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) – July 2025

PALNI’s organization is shown as five layers, from board leadership to support teams. The chart uses colors and lines to show how different roles connect and work together.

Top layer – Board
At the very top is the Board, which makes big-picture decisions for PALNI. The Board has Strategic Committees and Task Forces for special projects. The Executive Committee, made up of Board members, directly supervises the Executive Director.

Second layer – Leadership staff
The Executive Director runs PALNI’s day-to-day work and manages:

  • The Associate Director

  • The Operations Manager

  • The Strategic Communications Director

  • The Scholarly Communications Director

The Collections Management Librarian reports to the Associate Director.

Third layer – Working Groups
Working Groups are teams focused on specific areas of library services:

  • Fulfillment (under the Associate Director)

  • Workflows (under the Associate Director)

  • Instructional Technology (under the Associate Director)

  • Electronic Resource Management (under the Collections Management Librarian)

  • Reference, Instruction, and Outreach (under the Executive Director)

  • Scholarly Communication (under the Scholarly Communications Director)

Fourth layer – Support Roles
Support Roles give expert help in each area:

  • Analytics 

  • Fulfillment – connected to the Fulfillment group

  • Development 

  • Cataloging 

  • Instructional Technology – connected to the Instructional Technology group

  • Reference, Instruction, and Outreach – connected to the RIO group

  • Open Textbook Publishing* – connected to Scholarly Communication (funded by a Lilly Endowment Grant)

  • Institutional Repository and Archives – connected to Scholarly Communication

Bottom layer – Support Teams
Support Teams work on special projects and partnerships:

  • Hyku – connected to Scholarly Communication; also connected by a dotted line to “In partnership with PALCI”

  • PALSave – connected to Scholarly Communication; supports affordable learning and open educational resources

  • Publishing Services – connected to Scholarly Communication; supports library publishing projects

  • Collaborative Collections – connected to Executive Director; shares and manages library collections

Color meanings
